Review Policy

My preferred genres:

  • Fantasy (low, high, urban, really anything with magic)
  • Paranormal / Paranormal Romance
  • Romance / MM romance (sex is okay!)
  • Humorous
  • Young Adult
  • Historical Fantasy
  • Speculative Fiction
  • Gothic
  • Fairy Tales / Fairy Stories / Retellings
  • Magical Realism
  • Action Adventure
  • LGBTQ+

My least read genres:

  • Contemporary (unless there are explosions!)
  • Nonfiction
  • Literary fiction

My “I might like it, might not” genres:

  • Omegaverse (hit or miss for me, mostly miss but I’ll be willing to try if the synopsis sounds interesting enough)
  • Humor (many of the books I read could be shelved as humorous, but I can be incredibly picky just the same)

My favorite tropes:

  • Kidnappings / Damsel in Distress (I have a thing for characters risking it all to save their loved ones, gender doesn’t matter)
  • Idiots-to-Lovers (something about being too dumb to notice the other person is equally in love brings me immense pleasure)
  • Grumpy / Sunshine
  • Morally Gray / Lovable Villains
  • Secret Identities

Rating System

I review most things with a star rating system. I rate books both for their content and my enjoyment. I feel like doing this allows books in different genres to be rated fairly. Rating romances, which may not always have the most realistic plots, alongside high fantasies with intricate world-building would be unfair if held to the same standard.

Every book deserves the opportunity to shine within its respective genre. Considering intention and genre allows me to be a more authentic reviewer.

5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Wonderful! Loved it! This book brought me immense joy and may even be a new favorite. I’ll be gushing about this story for a while.

4⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Wow, you’ve given me something magical! A rating for what I consider to be solid reads with few if any, issues. Often reread and recommend.

3⭐⭐⭐ – It was alright and I may or may not have enjoyed it. Maybe there were too many plot holes. Maybe the writing was just okay. Whatever kept me from enjoying this story fully, I will explain in my review.

2⭐⭐ – Dislike. Something was wrong here, not enough to warrant hatred of the book but enough that I will not recommend it to others.

1⭐ – Genuine dislike, usually due to something problematic which I will likely elaborate on in my review.

*rating like 3.75 may also appear in my reviews, though not often; I may also give star ratings to cover design, plot, representation (if advertised as something in particular), and so on.

Requests

I do accept review requests from both independently and traditionally published books. Authors or publishers are free to reach out.

As I get quite a few requests, I cannot guarantee I will accept every request that comes through but chances are higher if your book is in one of my preferred genres.

I do not accept review requests from the following genres / themes:

  • Nonfiction (graphic novels and graphic memoirs are okay!)
  • Literary fiction
  • Middle-grade or picture books
  • School bullying plots

Darker content is welcome. But do keep in mind content warnings in regard to darker themes. So if, for example, your book contains a detailed assault scene with no warning for readers I will make mention of the lack of warning in my review.

I am also more than willing to discuss ways I can help you promote your book, be that a blog tour, interview, giveaways, etc.

Priority

Your book does not have to be newly released or an ARC to request a review, however, those books will be getting priority as early reviews are vital for sales.

For new books, I attempt to review them within two weeks of the release date. I will do my best to keep you updated on when my reviews go public or of any delays.

If you don’t have a specific timeframe for when you’d like your book reviewed, yay! Because I am a mood reader at heart, having the freedom to read at my own pace is a treat.

Format

I accept Kindle-compatible format ebooks and print books, but ebooks are preferred. I am based in the US if that affects your decision.

Posting

I post reviews on my blog, Goodreads, Storygraph, and often Instagram. I do try to post reviews on Amazon too but have been experiencing issues lately so these may take longer to appear. I post both positive and negative reviews so please keep that in mind.
